I wish things were the way they used to be.

Someone recently said to me that they “wished things would go back to the way it used to be”. This made me ponder on the things of my past….I have thought of the way things were in my past and often wondered if I ever wanted that old life or way of living…. I think that we think of the “old way or old life” as being great and wonderful, yet change happens in all of our lives. Just as the seasons change, we change as well. We think that change is bad because we are not comfortable with changing. As the leaves start to change for the fall, I think about all that has happened in my life. Just as the leaves change and turn into the most beautiful colors, we also change and turn into beautiful people. We shed the old and prepare for all the new things that are in store for us. I must admit that the safety of the “old ways or old days” is hard to leave but it is when we get to change into who we are called to be or do what we are called to do, that will get the true safety that we long for.

As you begin or continue on your journey of change, hold tight and stand tall. Some friends or family may turn away from you but know that change is not bad; it is just the beginning of a new life. Beautiful things are ahead. I know that I want to look back and know that I changed things in this world and personally for others and myself. So to respond to the statement that someone said about wishing things were the way they used to be, I do not wish for the old. I wish for the new and beautiful things that are ahead. I look forward to seeing where my changes will take me in 1 year, 6 years, 16 years, 26 years, and beyond.

I will leave you with a few quotes…..

“Be the change that you wish to see in the world.” ~Mahatma Gandhi

“Everyone thinks of changing the world, but no one thinks of changing himself.” ~Leo Tolstoy

“Some change looks negative on the surface but you will soon realize that space is being created in your life for something new to emerge.”
~Eckhart Tolle
