Silence

When the whole world is silent, even one voice becomes powerful.
~Malala Yousafzai

In this world we don’t always see the reason why things happen. I often find myself thinking why has this happened or how could this happen? I have found that as I sit here pondering these questions my blood begins to boil and my heart pounds uncontrollably.

We live in a world where people remain silent and turn the other way. People don’t want to stand up and fight for others. They choose to care more about themselves or money than for the human beings living on this earth. We have become a society that cares more about our own needs rather than the needs of our neighbors. We choose to close our doors at night and forget about the people living next door or across the world. What about the children in our communities and across the world? Who cares for them? We choose to close our eyes and turn the other way especially if these children are not the “normal children”. Our world has become a world that focuses on “The I Syndrome”. When will we change? When will stop being silent and stand up for others? It takes ONE man, ONE woman, ONE little girl, or ONE little boy to become a powerful voice in this world.

I am so glad that my son has become that powerful voice in this world. Samuel changes things with his voice. His words may not be like others but his words are powerful. My sweet son’s voice will continue to change things in this silent world.

I urge you today to stop being silent and use your voice. Become powerful in this silent world. I look forward to the next year, 6 years, 16 years, 26 years and beyond when I get to look back and see how many people decided that they would stop being silent. I will leave you with one more quote…

Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.
~Martin Luther King, Jr.
